Yavapai County Flood officials encourage preparation for potential flooding

February 9, 2024

The Yavapai County Flood Control District reminds residents to prepare now for potential flooding resulting from the recent storms.

After the last wave of the storm passes through Saturday, our temperatures will rise throughout next week, which can fill local creeks and streams once snow runoff begins, and quickly trigger snowmelt flooding in streets and basements.

If you need sandbags, you can find a link to a list of self-service filling stations across the county on the District website, by visiting yavapaiaz.gov.

Coconino County currently has two sandbag sites in North Flagstaff: at Peaks View Park in Doney Park; and at the corner of Highway 89 and Campbell Avenue.

Also watch out for flooded washes and low-water crossings; and remember it only takes six inches of fast-moving water to knock over and carry away an adult, and 12-24 inches to carry away most vehicles; so “Turn around, don’t drown.”
