The Coconino County Flood Control District and the Coconino National Forest have announced a new plan to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire and post-fire flooding on the Upper Rio de Flag Watershed.

The Forest Restoration Plan comes after recent analyses demonstrating significant fire and flood risk in the area; and it will include mechanical thinning and prescribed fire operations to remove significant amounts of “dead and down” wood across more than 12,000 acres over the next five years.

The project will work alongside other ongoing efforts, such as the Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project.

You can see a recording of a presentation for the Upper Rio de Flag plan on the County Board of Supervisor’s webpage.
