February 13, 2024

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has released more information about a hiker who died after falling from the Pyramid Trail in Sedona on Saturday.

According to YCSO, the 79-year-old Maine resident was hiking with his wife, and witnesses reported that he seemed to be struggling, but when passersby asked if he needed help, he said he was fine.

Minutes later, the man slipped and fell about 30 feet down the steep embankment, hitting his head; and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Sedona Fire District advises hikers that many trails still have icy spots; and they recommend you avoid steep slopes and cliff edges for the time being.
