YCSO investigation of possible crime scene reveals food storage hidden in mine shaft

January 29, 2024

A Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a report of a possible crime scene in the Bumble Bee area instead revealed a hidden food storage effort.

According to YCSO, an anonymous citizen reported finding what looked like bodies in bags down an abandoned mineshaft. Responding deputies located the bags, and called in Search and Rescue teams for the difficult task of getting to them.

Once inside the shaft, it took the team some effort to remove tarps secured around the bags, but they ultimately discovered they were in fact stuffed full of food. Deputies later found a horizontal shaft attached to the vertical one, which they believe someone was using to access the location, as a place to store food in case of a disaster.
