The National Weather Service’s Flagstaff office advises travelers to expect hazardous conditions in the high country this weekend.

After widespread gusty winds Saturday, topping out between 40 and 50 miles per hour, forecasts for late Saturday night through early Sunday morning predict 5-10 inches of snow on I-17 from the Yavapai-Coconino County line to Flagstaff; and on SR 89-A in Oak Creek Canyon and near the summit of Mingus Mountain. I-40 could see up to a foot of snow between Flagstaff and Williams; and State Route 87 between Highway 260 and Clints Well could see up to 15 inches.

Officials recommend you avoid traveling, if you can; and if you have to be on the road, check conditions at az511.gov, give yourself extra time so that you can take it slow; and make sure your gas tank is full, and that you have blankets, food, water and a fully-charged cell phone with you.
