The City of Flagstaff will begin work as early as next week on the Schultz Creek Drainage Improvement project on US Highway 180.

Officials say that after the 2022 Pipeline Fire, post-fire flooding caused catastrophic damage in the Stevanna Way and Coconino Estates area, due to an inadequate culvert at the highway. The nearby neighborhood is currently under a FEMA special flood hazard area designation, but officials expect the new, larger box culvert to substantially reduce or remove that designation.

Work will take place Mondays through Saturdays, generally from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., and should be substantially complete by July 1. Repaving and other final aspects of the project will then be finished by August.

The highway will remain open during construction.
