Sedona FD assists injured hiker on Cathedral Rock

Sedona Fire crews rescue an injured hiker on Cathedral Rock

March 25, 2024

Sedona Fire crews assisted a hiker who fell about 20 feet on Cathedral Rock Sunday.

According to the Fire District, the woman sustained head and upper body injuries after falling on the wet, slick rock around 11 a.m., and responding personnel used a full-body vacuum mattress to stabilize the patient.

Due to the location and conditions, crews set up a rope rescue system to lower the woman to an area where they could put her on a big-wheel. She was then taken to the trailhead, where a Native Air helicopter flew her to the hospital.

Sedona Fire reminds the public that the red rocks can become very slick when wet; and often have patches of black ice when the weather is cold.
