The City of Prescott’s Engineering and Public Works Department has installed water circulator machines at Watson Lake, to help address pollution concerns.

Back in 2004, the Environmental Protection Agency listed the lake as impaired for nitrogen pH and dissolved oxygen; and in a 2015 analysis, the state Department of Environmental Quality added phosphorus as a pollutant of concern.

The City recently purchased solar-powered circulators, after extensive research into the best way to meet prescribed pollution reduction measures. The circulators will increase dissolved oxygen in the lake, and reduce the nutrients that can cause harmful algal blooms in the summertime.
