The Clarkdale Police Department is investigating a case of cryptocurrency fraud that recently cost a local resident tens of thousands of dollars.

The department says that unlike many common cases, this was not an incident of a scammer contacting and tricking a victim into paying them money. Instead, the victim said that a client of hers recommended a family friend who is a cryptocurrency trader. The victim reportedly transferred money to that person as an investment, but got nothing in return.

The client told police she did not introduce anyone specific to the victim, but only mentioned a dealer she had seen an ad for on Facebook.

The investigation is ongoing; and the department reminds everyone to be cautious with investments, and thoroughly research any business or individual you are considering working with.
