The Coconino County Flood Control District will receive $2 million in federal funding for post-wildfire flooding and forest restoration projects.

Part of the money will go to flood mitigation work along the Highway 89 corridor, north of Flagstaff; with another portion supporting a forest restoration initiative on Observatory Mesa.

The funding was approved as part of a recently-passed Interior and Environment Appropriations Bill package, and it will be distributed to the County through the U.S. Forest Service’s State and Private Forestry Program.
