Water quality tests showing no contamination from Chino Valley Circle K fuel leak

March 26, 2024
Circle K says that tests of drinking water wells in Chino Valley have not shown any contamination from the recent underground fuel leak at their local gas station.
In a press release earlier this month, the company said that the spill of about 86,000 gallons of fuel occurred late last year.
A third-party laboratory commissioned by Circle K has been testing water from seven wells on properties near the affected store, in multiple directions, every week late February, and none of the tested samples has shown any water quality contamination. Weekly testing will continue, but based on those results, the company has no plans to test wells farther from the site at this time.
They have installed perforated vapor extraction wells in the ground, which create a vacuum to change liquid gasoline to a vapor, then direct the vapor to a thermal oxidizer system to be destroyed.
Circle K says they are also reinforcing training and procedures to make sure store employees can recognize and report fuel shortages, and understand the proper response to fuel system alarms.
