A skier at Arizona Snowbowl died Monday, after reportedly crashing into a tree.

According to initial information gathered by Coconino County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the victim was skiing on the Upper Ridge run, which is labeled with a “black diamond” rating, indicating the most difficult terrain. It appears they went just outside of the boundary line, and hit a tree.

Nearby patrons immediately summoned the ski patrol, who responded and attempted lifesaving efforts. However, the victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the victim’s name at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
