Sedona FD releases more details on rescue of an injured hiker on Bell Rock

February 1, 2024

The Sedona Fire District has released more details about Sunday’s rescue of an injured hiker off of Bell Rock.

Division Chief Dori Booth says the patient was hiking on the top of the mountain when they fell about 15 feet off a rock face, then tumbled down the steep slope below before coming to a stop about 15 feet from a large cliff. Responding Sedona Fire personnel hiked to the location, secured the patient with a webbing harness, and began pain management and injury assessment.

They then bundled the patient in a vacuum mattress and took them to an area where a DPS Ranger helicopter crew could lower a paramedic, then hoist the patient up to the helicopter for transportation to the hospital.
