A Prescott Valley man will serve 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including aggravated assault and attempted aggravated assault on law enforcement, related to a December 2021 incident.

According to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office, police responded to reports that 35-year-old Joshua Anson Schoebelen was yelling, had slammed a family member’s head against a wall, and was loading several guns, saying he would shoot the police if they came to his house.

After hours of negotiations with officers, Schnoebelen opened fire, hitting one officer in the leg and grazing the head of another. Police returned fire, wounding Schnoebelen, who was hospitalized, and later arrested.

Schnoebelen agreed to a plea deal last December, and he will not be eligible for early release.
