The Kaibab National Forest is seeking public comment for a proposal to re-issue a grazing permit on a segment of the Tusayan Ranger District.

The Forest says the Rain Tank Allotment covers almost 63,000 acres west of Tusayan, within the Bwaaj Nwaavjo I’tak Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument. The 10-year permit proposal would allow up to 500 cow/calf pairs to graze in the allotment for a seven-month period each year.

Permit-based livestock grazing is a protected use under the Monument designation; and the proposal also includes water pipeline and harvesting improvements.

The public can comment on the proposal through March 4th; and you can find a news release with more information on the Forest’s website.
