A routine traffic stop by Cottonwood Police on Monday night led to two arrests, on drug and weapon charges.

According to the Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle near Main Street and State Route 260, and became suspicious that the two occupants—a 25-year-old man and 47-year-old woman—might be involved in illegal activity. A subsequent probable cause search revealed over a thousand fentanyl pills, along with quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl powder, PCP, Xanax pills, testosterone; and a gun.

The two occupants, one of whom is a former officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections, were charged with drug and weapon possession; with the driver facing an additional charge of prohibited weapon possession, and the passenger charged with having an open container of alcohol.
