A Cordes Lakes woman has been charged with First Degree Murder in the death of her elderly roommate.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office says they were asked to perform a welfare check on 93-year-old Carl Miller Friday night, by a friend who was concerned that they had not seen or heard from Miller in a couple of days.

When deputies went to his home, off of Rodeo Drive, Miller’s 59-year-old roommate reportedly said he had driven out of town, and she did not know where he was. When deputies followed up with the initial caller, the friend noted that Miller’s truck was still in the driveway, and appeared to be inoperable.

Deputies then returned to the home to question the roommate, but got no response. They looked through a window and saw a man lying motionless on the ground; so they ordered the roommate to come out, which she did, after several requests.

Investigators determined Miller had apparently suffered a violent death at least a day before, with wounds indicating foul play. The roommate was arrested, and this investigation continues.
