A contractor for the Prescott National Forest has begun construction on the new White Spar Trailhead, a few miles south of Prescott.

The existing trailhead will be closed from now into April, for equipment mobilization and materials staging; and visitors should avoid the area. Parking is not allowed along Highway 89; and there will be no access to the highway on motorized trails 64 or 382. Officials recommend visitors access the area trails via the City of Prescott’s Goldwater Lake facilities, or through the Forest’s Watershed Trailhead.

Improvements will include expanded parking, an informational kiosk, vault toilets, picnic tables, and accessible parking and paths; and the project will last into early May. Funding for the work comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act.
