APS warns that loose mylar balloons can cause power outages

APS reminds the public that if your Valentine’s Day includes mylar balloons, keep them grounded and away from power lines.
Over all of last year, APS crews responded to over 100 power outages caused by balloons; as the metal coating does conduct electricity, and can cause a short circuit or power surge that can melt electrical wires, or spark a fire.
